Cytokinesis in higher plants

Article Abstract:

The most significant stage in plant cytokinesis occurs when an expanding cell plate locates and fuses with a predetermined site on the plasma membrane to build a new cell wall. This centrifugal process is influenced by the action of the phragmoplast from which the cell plate arises. The phragmoplast, a complex structure that arises in late anaphase, plays a key role in cell plate formation. This structure formed by a complex array of Golgi vesicles, endoplasmic reticulum, microfilaments and microtubules. The phragmoplast, however, is dismantled after the cell plate evolves into a new cell wall.

Nocut: Cytokinesis in check

Article Abstract:

A new pathway, NoCut, links the completion of chromosome segregation to the onset of cytokinesis in budding yeast. In NoCut, Aurora kinase(lpl1) at the spindle midzone negatively regulates cytokinesis through two proteins previously identified to be involved in cell polarity, Boi1 and Boi2.
