Detection and identification of mammalian reoviruses in surface water by combined cell culture and reverse transcription-PCR

Article Abstract:

The detection of reoviruses in water samples could be an indicator of fecal contamination of drinking water. Reoviruses are enteric viruses that infect many mammals without causing serious disease.

Aged HCT-8 cell monolayers support Cryptosporidium parvum infection

Article Abstract:

The ability of 8- to 67-day old HCT-8 cell monolayer to support Cryptosporidium parvum infection is demonstrated by employing immunofluorescent assay microscopy.

Detection of infectious Cryptosporidium parvum oocysts in surface and filter backwash water samples by immunomagnetic separation and integrated cell culture-PCR

Article Abstract:

Researchers describe a cell culturing and PCR (CC-PCR) method for detecting Cryptosporidium parvum oocysts in raw source water and filter backwash water samples from 25 US sites. The technique was as accurate as an immunofluorescence assay on the same samples.
