Comparison of pmoA PCR primer sets as tools for investigating methanotroph diversity in three Danish soils

Article Abstract:

Research has been conducted on the particulate methane monooxygenase PCR primer sets. The ability of these sets to assess methanotroph diversity in soils from the sites capable of oxidizing atmospheric methane concentrations has been investigated and discussed.

Detection of methanotroph diversity on roots of submerged rice plants by molecular retrieval of pmoA, mmoX, mxaF, and 16S rRNA and ribosomal DNA, including pmoA-based terminal restriction fragment length polymorphism profiling

Article Abstract:

Research has been conducted on the methanotrophic bacteria. The methanotrophic diversity associated with the roots of the submerged rice plants and the retrieval of the pmoA encoding the alpha subunit of the particulate methane monooxygenase have been investigated via different cultivation-independent techniques.

Heat-tolerant methanotrophic bacteria from the hot water effluent of a natural gas field

Article Abstract:

Fourteen types of bacteria that can break down methane at high temperatures and in high concentrations of copper have been isolated from the hot water from a natural gas field. The bacteria can be grown at 45 degrees Celsius and their crucial enzyme, soluble methane monooxygenase, is active in a copper concentration of 0.8 micoM, which normally prevents activity. These bacteria may be extremely useful in breaking down environmental pollutants.
