Differential distribution of cAMP receptors cAR2 and cAR3 during Dictyostelium development

Article Abstract:

The cellular slime mold Dictyostelium undergo signal transduction via a family of G protein-coupled receptors for proper development. Differential spatial and temporal distribution of cAMP receptor subtypes (cAR) such as cAR2 and cAR3 using double immunofluorescence and expression of transformants showed that both receptors are expressed and distributed in a nonoverlapping pattern. cAR2 was expressed at the anterior, prestalk cells while cAR3 was expressed throughout the organism, suggesting that these receptor subtypes may result in distinct signaling mechanisms in the organism.
