Differential gene expression in the laccase gene family from Basidiomycete I-62 (CECT 20197)

Article Abstract:

Northern blot analysis of the expression of three laccase genes previously identified and cloned from the basidiomycete I-62 demonstrates that these genes are differentially regulated. The findings show that two of the genes are responsive to veratryl alcohol induction, but the first gene is sensitive in the early stages of growth while the second gene is responsive upon reaching the stationary stage. The results also indicate that the third gene is under catabolic repression.

Use of multiplex reverse transcription-PCR to study the expression of a laccase gene family in a basidiomycetous fungus

Article Abstract:

A multiplex RT-PCR method is designed and optimized to study laccase gene expression in the basidiomycete Trametes sp. strain. Changes in the lcc transcripts can be quickly and easily monitored from 10-mg samples of wet mycelium, facilitating the possibilities of studying gene expression through the analysis of a large number of samples from minimal amounts of mycelia.

Identification of a gene cluster for biosynthesis of Mannosylerythritol lipids in the basidiomycetous fungus Ustilago maydis

Article Abstract:

The identification of a gene cluster for mannosylerythritol lipid (MEL) biosynthesis, which consists of five open reading frames, is described. The mutation analysis demonstrates that putative acyltransferases Mac1 and Mac2 are essential for MEL biosynthesis and acetyltransferase Mat1 catalyzes the acetylation of mannosylerythritol lipids in Ustilago maydis.
