Dispersal from natal territories and the origin of cooperatively polyandrous breeding groups in the Brown Skua

Article Abstract:

A study was conducted to examine the natal dispersal and first breeding of banded fledglings of the Brown Skua on the Catham Islands. The study also sought to determine the relatedness of the breeding group members. The analysis of natal dispersal and recruitment was based on data of 102 adult skuas which banded as fledglings. Results indicated that the breeding groups of the Brown Skua were not characterized by close relatives.

Artificial nest predation and abundance of birds along an urban gradient

Article Abstract:

Research investigating the rates of predation of artificial bird nests in Finnish towns is presented. Particular attention is given to comparisons of nest predation rates between inner cities, town outskirts and nearby forests, as well as ways in which they affect bird groupings.

Correlates of reproductive success in cooperatively breeding Western American Crows: if helpers help, it's not by much

Article Abstract:

Research concerning a 6-year study of Western American Crows showed that breeding success was affected by early nesting, the presence of helpers, and pair differences. Size was important in post-fledging survival rates.
