Disruption of a cadherin gene associated with resistance to Cry1Ac delta-endotoxin of Bacillus thuringiensis in Helicoverpa armigera

Article Abstract:

The cross-resistance pattern and inheritance mode of a laboratory-selected Heli armigera strain with a very high level of resistance to Cry1Ac and the disruption of a cadherin gene which was found to be associated with Cry1Ac resistance in this strain is reported. The results confirmed that the cadherin gene is a preferred target for developing DNA-based monitoring of Bacillus thuringiensis in field populations of lepidopteran pests.

New resistance mechanism in Helicoverpa armigera threatens transgenic crops expressing Bacillus thuringiensis Cry1Ac toxin

Article Abstract:

A demonstration that a population of Australian Helicoverpa armigera has developed resistance associated with elevated esterase levels to Cry1Ac toxin (275-fold) is presented. The results revealed that Cry1Ac-resistance larvae fed Cy1Ac transgenic cotton or Cry1Ac-treated artificial diet had lower esterase activity than non-Cry1Ac-fed larvae.

Mutated cadherin alleles from a field population of Helicoverpa armigera confer resistance to Bacillus thuringiensis toxin Cry1Ac

Article Abstract:

The isolation of two new cadherin alleles conferring Cry1Ac resistance from a field population of Helicoverpa armigera is described by using a biphasic screen strategy. The findings have shown that bollworm larvae carrying two resistance alleles have completed the development on Bt cotton.
