Local drift load and the heterosis of interconnected populations

Article Abstract:

The heterosis of interconnected populations and local drift load are discussed. Wrights's distribution of equilibrium allele frequency has been used to show that hybrids that connect populations by low-to-moderate levels of migration can have large positive herterosis. This is especially so if the populations are small. Heterosis in crosses between populations has a different genetic basis than inbreeding depression within populations. It is also much more likely to come from alleles which have intermediate effect.

Estimating quantitative genetic parameters in haplodiploid organisms

Article Abstract:

Estimating quantitative genetic parameters in haplodiploid organisms is discussed. Ways for conventional experimental designs and statistics intended for measurement of quantitative genetic parameters for diploid organisms to be applied to haplodiploid ones have been found.

Gene flow and selection balance in haplodiploid social insects

Article Abstract:

Gene flow and selection balance are discussed based on haplodiploid social insects. A method for describing cases of gene flow-selection balance and accounting for the life history of haplodiploid social insects is presented. A continent-island model is used. Issues basic to differences between haplodiploid and X-linked genetic systems and diploid genetic systems are covered.
