In situ reverse transcription-PCR for monitoring gene expression in individual Methanosarcina mazei S-6 cells

Article Abstract:

Research has been conducted on the Methanosarcina mazei mRNA. The reverse transcription-PCR protocol to detect this mRNA is analyzed.

Expression of nifH genes in natural microbial assemblages in Lake George, New York, detected by reverse transcriptase PCR

Article Abstract:

Research has been conducted on the nitrogenase genes. The use of the reverse transcriptase polymerase chain reaction method in detecting the expression of these genes in a meso-oligotrophic lake is discussed.

Visualization of specific gene expression in individual Salmonella typhimurium cells by in situ PCR

Article Abstract:

The expression of the lac gene in Salmonella typhimurium was monitored using a modified polymerase chain reaction (PCR) technique. The lac messenger RNA levels was approximated using gene activity measures at the population level. This technique will provide researchers an opportunity to investigate specific gene expression in bacteria as well as determine bacterial spatial distribution in communities in natural habitats.
