Dissolution of xylose metabolism in Lactococcus lactis

Article Abstract:

Results demonstrate that inability of some strains of Lactobacillus lactis to metabolize xylose is not attributable to mutations in the xyl operon. Data suggest some indirect events affecting catalytic site structures or accumulation of mutations may be impairing the process.

Genetic evidence for a defective xylan degradation pathway in Lactococcus lactis

Article Abstract:

Researchers describe three strains of Lactococcus lactis that contain genes for a mutarotase, a xyloside transporter, and a beta-xylosidase. Although the enzymes are active, none of the strains metabolize xylan or xylobiose.

Restoration of a defective Lactococcus lactis xylose isomerase

Article Abstract:

The genes which program xylose isomerase (XI) from two Lactococcus lactis subsp. Lactis strains, 210 and IO-1 were combined and the actions of the proteins that appeared in the recombinant strains of Escherichia coli were scrutinized. The beginning of a K407E transformation into the IO-1 S388T XI change restores its action and the dissolvability.
