Germ-cell nondisjunction in testes biopsies of men with idiopathic infertility

Article Abstract:

A significantly increased rate of aneuploidy was found in the germ cells of men with impaired spermatogenesis of undetermined cause compared to a control group with normal spermatogenesis. The increased aneuploidy occurred in mitotic as well as meiotic spermatogenic cells. The chromosome instability appeared to be caused by changes in genetic control when mitotic cells divide and proliferate during spermatogenesis. Possible aneuploidy risks associated with intracytoplasmic sperm injection should be considered.
