Global molecular and morphological effects of 24-hour chromium (VI) exposure on Shewanella oneidensis MR-1

Article Abstract:

The cellular morphology, genome-wide differential gene and protein expression profiles are analyzed to assess the biological impact of 24-h chromium (VI) exposure on Shewanella oneidensis MR-I. The complete disappearance of Chromium (VI) from the growth medium at the 24-h time point of exposure suggests the intracellular accumulation of chromate.

Use of microarrays with different probe sizes for monitoring gene expression

Article Abstract:

Microarrays that contained oligonucleotide probes of different lengths were compared in order to determine a better alternative to PCR amplicon microarrays. Results indicated that a 70-mer oligonucleotide array is an alternative to a PCR amplicon microarray, although the sensitivity is lower than that of an array with PCR probe.

Global transcriptional profiling of Shewanella oneidensis MR-1 during Cr(VI) and U(VI) reduction

Article Abstract:

Whole-genome DNA microarrays are used to examine the gene expression profile of Shewanella oneidensis MR-1 during U(VI) and Cr(VI) reduction. U(VI)-reducing conditions resulted in the upregulation of 121 genes, while 83 genes are upregulated under Cr(VI)-reducing conditions.
