Glucose signaling in Saccharomyces cerevisiae

Article Abstract:

The budding yeast Saccharomyces cerevisiae has proven to be a fertile model system with which to identify glucose signaling factors, determine the relevant functional and physical interrelationships, and characterize the corresponding metabolic, transcriptomic, and proteomic readouts. The early events in glucose signaling appear to require both extracellular sensing by transmembrane proteins and intracellular sensing by G proteins.

"Sleeping Beauty": Quiescence in Saccharomyces cerevisiae

Article Abstract:

Quiescent microbes are considered to represent about 60% of the biomass on Earth and are doubtless the seeds of microbial life in nature. The aspect of only one quiescent state of the cell that is achieved by growth of liquid cultures to saturation in rich medium is focused. It is concluded that the cell quiescence cycle is as important a process to life on this planet as is the mitotic cell division cycle.

Cell wall integrity signaling in Saccharomyces cerevisiae

Article Abstract:

The regulatory pathways employed by Saccharomyces cerevisiae to maintain cell wall integrity during growth and morphogenesis and in the face of external challenges that cause cell wall stress are highlighted. However, additional signaling pathways interface both with the cell wall integrity signaling pathway and with the actin cytoskeleton to coordinate polarized secretion with cell wall expansion.
