Growth and health status of street children in Dhaka, Bangladesh

Article Abstract:

A study is conducted to assess the effect of street life on the growth and health status of poor children who live and work fulltime on the streets of Dhaka, Bangladesh, independent of the effects of poverty. It is found that the majority of children in both street and slum children groups are stunted and underweight but there are no significant differences between groups and the prevalence of disease symptoms slightly higher in street children than in slum children.

The fine print of NBA vs. Sprewell

Article Abstract:

Public outrage over the sports labor arbitrator's decision in National Basketball Ass'n v. Sprewell is understandable, but the opinion did state that workplace violence is intolerable but that discipline must also be fair. The arbitrator shortened Sprewell's suspension from the NBA and restored some of the games in his contract, but his discussion of why he saw fit to mitigate the orginal penalty could have been strengthened in a number of ways, and these are listed.

The new IQ

Psychologist Robert J. Sternberg is developing a broader intelligence test that incorporates not only the basic IQ testing, but also tests for common sense and the ability to cope with unusual situations. A personal encounter with the Sternberg Triarchic Abilities Test is described.
