Identification of genetic factors contributing to heterosis in a hybrid from two elite maize inbred lines using molecular markers

Article Abstract:

A study was conducted to evaluate heterosis and genotype-by-environment (GxE) behavior in maize genetics. The study focused on molecular markers to observe quantitative trait loci (QTLs) which are vital in agricultural genetics and plant improvement systems. Results show that both methods generated the same QTL findings. QTLs exhibited minimal signs of GxE behavior despite development in various conditions.

A nonparametric approach for mapping quantitative trait loci

Article Abstract:

A nonparametric approach that is applicable for any phenotypic distribution helps genetically map the quantitative trait loci (QTLs). The statistic Z(w) used in the method utilizes interval mapping to generalize the nonparametric Wilcoxon rank-sum test to whole-genome search. The asymptotic null distribution of Z(w) conforms to an Ornstein-Uhlenbeck process, indicating its correct significance level.

Comparative recombination distances among Zea mays L. inbreds, wide crosses and interspecific hybrids

Article Abstract:

A study was conducted to compare recombination distances and linkage heterogeneity among a wide range of maize inbreds, wide crosses and maize crossed with teosinte hybrids. The results showed a higher recombination fraction for exotic germplasm than for either US maize or maize crossed with teosinte crosses.
