Impact of variation in ADRB2, ADRB3, and GNB3 genes on body mass index and waist circumference in a Brazilian Population

Article Abstract:

The potential effect of variants in three catecholaminergic pathway genes ADRB2, ADRB3 and GNB3 on obesity-related traits was investigated in an European-derived Brazilian population. Results reveal that the genetic bases of obesity are complex, with sex-specific effects a playing an important role in its etiology and in the case of European-derived population, the ADRB2 gene accounts for a significant part of obesity-related phenotypes in males.

Enzyme polymorphisms, smoking, and human reproduction. A study of human placental alkaline phosphates

Article Abstract:

Recent studies shows that polymorphic variation of enzymes can influence the effect of smoking on intrauterine growth. Placental alkaline phosphatase (PLAP) is a highly polymorphic enzyme with several alleles connected with different enzymatic activities, produced by the embryo, and is found in maternal blood. Infants from smoking women 28 years or older show a strong decrease of both PLAP *1/*1 and *2/*2 homozygous types.

Genetic structure and affinity among eight ethnic populations of Eastern India: based on 22 polymorphic DNA loci

Article Abstract:

The genetic structure, nature, affinity and extent of variation at 22 polymorphic DNA loci from three different classes and six coding loci in eight ethnic population groups of West Bengal and Manipur regions of India are studied. The different classes of DNA loci at the coding and the noncoding region are used to understand the influence of population structure variables on the genetic structure of populations.
