Size at birth and growth trajectories to young adulthood

Article Abstract:

The developmental path from birth to young adulthood is analyzed based on the studies of inter-relationships of maternal factors during pregnancy, infant birth weight and length, early postnatal growth and young adult height, weight and skinfold thicknesses and chronic disease risk. The data obtained from community studies reveal that the risk of chronic disease increases with rapid postnatal growth in the first four months.

Assessing the net effect of young maternal age on birth weight

Article Abstract:

A study demonstrates the effects of young maternal age effect on mean birth weight and the nature of the risks connected with young maternal age, and identifies specific pathways through which age affects risk. Bivariate analyses showed that infants of adolescents had a lower mean birth weight and were more at risk of low birth weight compared to those born to older mothers.
