Integrated cytogenetic map of chromosome arm 4S of A. thaliana: structural organization of heterochromatic knob and centromere region

Article Abstract:

Results illustrate characterization of heterochromatic knob of 700 kilobase length sequence accommodating repetetive sequences around the centromere and the nucleolar organizing region of the 4S chromosome arm of Arabidopsis thaliana. The role of heterochromatic knob's structural organization in the overall chromosome functioning is discussed.

The first plant genome

Article Abstract:

This review walks through the genome sequencing carried out for the first time with a plant genome. A 125 megabite genome of Arabidopsis thaliana is sequenced using a high throughput, genome-wide restriction-enzyme fignerprinting technique. Plant genome data are compared with those from animal and microbial genomes.
