Isolation and biochemical characterization of two novel metagenome-derived esterases

Article Abstract:

The isolation of two novel metagenome-derived esterase genes, estCE1 from oil-contaminated soil and estA3 from a drinking water biofilm, and the biochemical characterization of their corresponding enzymes are reported. The high level of stability of these enzymes together with their unique substrate specificities have made them very useful for biotechnological applications.

Metagenome survey of biofilms in drinking-water networks

Article Abstract:

The complex metagenome of model drinking water biofilms grown on rubber coated valves are characterized by employing three different strategies. Findings state that the microbial community within the studied microbial niche has only negligible pathogenic potential.
