Low diversity in the major histocompatibility complex class II DRB1 gene of the Spanish ibex, Capra pyrenaica

Article Abstract:

The decline and the low diversity in the major histocompatibility complex (MHC) class II DRB1 gene of the Spanish ibex, Capra pyrenaica is reported. Considerably low levels of microsatellite heterozygosity and allelic diversity were noticed in the Capra pyrenaica and the study suggested the significance of both natural selection and the demographic history of populations in determining patterns of genetic variation at MHC loci.

Inheritance and fitness effects of a pericentric inversion and a supernumerary chromosome segment in Muscari comosum (Liliaceae)

Article Abstract:

Fitness effects and inheritance of and a supernumerary chromosome segment (SCS) and a pericentric inversion in Muscari comosum (Liliaceae) as seen in 71 bulbs are discussed. The inversion, with which bulbs were heavier, is inherited in a Mendelian way on the female side, and this and various other observations are evaluated as they relate to maintenance of the two types of polymorphism in natural populations.
