Malaria infection and human behavioral factors: a stochastic model analysis for direct observation data in the Solomon Islands

Article Abstract:

Researchers used a newly developed mathematical model based on the results of blood examinations and 2 weeks of observations to study the effect of human behavior on malaria infection. The study revealed that the place where individuals spend the night had no relation to malaria infection, but some clothes reduced malaria infection. However, effective control of malaria transmission would require as much as 95% coverage by protection even in cases that the protective measures were highly effective.

The power of history

Article Abstract:

News items can be comingled with imagination into dynamic fiction. An author describes how unrelated events such as a ball game with J. Edgar Hoover watching, and a nuclear explosion in the USSR, can be powerfully woven into a fictive narrative. The recovery of idioms of a past period also renders a sense of history.
