The Rhizobium-plant symbiosis

Article Abstract:

Azorhizobium, Bradyrhizobium and Rhizobium detect the formation of modules on the stems and roots of leguminous hosts, where they synthesize the ammonia for the plant from atmospheric N2. Signals generated during the early interactions between plant and rhizobia, and the response to these signals constitute the symbiosis. Distinct plant signals and flavonoids in the root exudates stimulate the NodD regulatory protein that regulates the transcription of bacterial modulation genes. Nod metabolites of the lipooligosaccharide family are synthesized by all rhizobia through nod-encoded enzymes.

Genetic networks that regulate development in Dictyostelium cells

Article Abstract:

Regulatory genes can be controlled by the products of other regulatory genes. In Dictyostelium discoideum, several of these regulatory genes have been isolated, identified and mapped. Current research tries to tie in these regulatory genes to the developmental pathway of D. discoideum, from cell aggregation, specialization and terminal differentiation. Future research can help determine the unfilled gaps of which regulatory gene controls a certain path.
