Kinetics of methyl t-butyl ether cometabolism at low concentrations by pure cultures of butane-degrading bacteria

Article Abstract:

Arthrobacter bacteria can degrade methyl t-butyl ether (MTBE) when grown on butane but not when grown on glucose, butanol, or tryptose phosphate. Methylosinus trichosporium and Streptomyces griseus were unable to degrade MTBE.

Methylosinus trichosporium OB3b mutants having constitutive expression of soluble methane monooxygenase in the presence of high levels of copper

Article Abstract:

The soluble form of Methylosinus trichosporium methane monooxygenase (sMMO), the key enzyme in trichloroethylene (TCE) degradation, functions only under conditions of copper limitation. For bioremediation purposes, mutants of M. trichosporium expressingconstitutive levels of sMMO in the presence of high concentrations of copper were generated. Among the resulting mutants, one designated PP358 was able to express twice the sMMO activity in the absence of copper as compared to the wild type.

Cometabolism of trihalomethanes by Nitrosomonas europaea

Article Abstract:

Cometabolism of chloroform, or trichloromethane (TCM), as well as trihalomethanes (THM) by ammonia-oxidizing bacterium Nitrosomas europaea (ATCC 19718) is evaluated. Although a given water sample is kinetically favored based on THM speciation, the resulting THM product toxicity might not allow stable treatment process performance.
