Methylotrophic metabolism is advantageous for Methylobacterium extorquens during colonization of Medicago truncatula under competitive conditions

Article Abstract:

Inoculation experiments are performed to study the importance of methylotrophic metabolism for colonization of the model legume Medicago truncatula. Mutants with defects in methylotrophy are capable of plant colonization at the wild-type level, indicating that mutant is not the only carbon source that is accessible to Methylobacterium while it is associated with plants.

Biochemical and ecological control of geosmin and 2-methylisoborneol in source waters

Article Abstract:

Salient aspects on the sources and properties of geosmin and 2-methylisoborneol (2-MIB) that are essential to understanding and managing drinking water mal-odors are reviewed. It is highlighted that some key factors regulating the storage and release of compounds by cells contribute to some of the apparent ambiguity of many taste-and-odor outbreaks.

Identification of bacterial groups preferentially associated with mycorrhizal roots of Medicago truncatula

Article Abstract:

An automated-ribosomal intergenic spacer analysis was used to compare the genetic structures of rhizosphere bacterial communities associated with mycorrhizal and nonmycorrhizal genotypes of Medicago truncatula. The bacterial genera studied were found to be preferentially associated with mycorryhizal roots in the Mas d'Imbert soil.
