Mice with reduced NMDA receptor expression display behaviors related to schizophrenia

Article Abstract:

The generation of mice with only 5% the normal levels of N-methyl-D-aspartate (NMDA) receptors were found to exhibit behaviors related to schizophrenia. These behaviors include increased motor activity, stereotypy and social sexual interaction deficits. The schizophrenic behavior were found to be treatable with clozapine or haloperidol, antipsychotic drugs that antagonize serotonergic and dopaminergic receptors.

Beta-Arrestin goes nuclear

Article Abstract:

Arrestin is from a group of proteins that is closely associated with the function of seven transmembrane domain G protein coupled receptors (GPCRs). Evidence shows that beta-arrestine 1 moves to the nucleus in response to GPCR simulation where it regulates gene expression.

An Akt/beta-arrestin 2/PP2A signaling complex mediates dopaminergic neurotransmission and behavior

Article Abstract:

Study is conducted to show that D2 class-receptor-mediated Akt regulation involves the formation of signaling complexes containing beta-arrestin 2, PP2A, and Akt. Results suggest that beta-arrestin 2 acts as a signaling intermediate through a kinase/phosphatase scaffold.
