Miniature neurotransmission stabilizes synaptic function via tonic suppression of local dendritic protein synthesis

Article Abstract:

Study is conducted to show that miniature synaptic transmission that persists during action potential (AP) blockade profoundly shapes the time course and mechanism of homeostatic scaling. Results indicate that a mode of NMDA receptor (NMDAR) signaling during miniature synaptic transmission acts to stabilize synaptic function by suppressing local protein synthesis in dendrites.

A rapid, reversible, and tunable method to regulate protein function in living cells using synthetic small molecules

Article Abstract:

A general technique is developed to regulate the stability of specific proteins in mammalian cells using cell-preamble, synthetic molecules. Genetic fusion of the destabilizing domain to a gene of interest ensures specificity, and the attendant small-molecule control confers speed, reversibility and dose-dependence to this method.
