Mitochondrial sequence variation in Portuguese native dog breeds: Diversity and phylogenetic affinities

Article Abstract:

A study aims to determine the mitochondrial deoxyribonucleic acid (mtDNA) genetic variability of Portuguese dogs and to evaluate the geographic context of genetic variation in these and neighboring dog populations. The lack of an obvious underlying geographic or breed-related structure in the neighbor-joining (NJ) tree indicates that most of the breeds are derived from the same ancestral stock and retain many of the ancestral maternal haplotypes and/or that extensive introgression occurred in the process of breed formation and development.

Analysis of the inheritance of white spotting and the evaluation of KIT and EDNRB as spotting Loci in Dutch boxer dogs

Article Abstract:

Thus neither KIT nor endothelin receptor B (EDNRB) are likely to be responsible for white spotting in the Dutch population of boxers. A genetic linkage study with polymorphic markers for KIT and EDNRB was performed with litters of Dutch boxers in which at least one dog with an extreme white phenotype was present.

Genetic isolation by distance among populations of the netted dog whelk Nassarius reticulatus (L.) along the European Atlantic coastline

Article Abstract:

A study was conducted to assess the extent of genetic structure displayed by Nassarius reticulatus population along South European Atlantic coastline. It was seen that a significant trend of genetic isolation by distance showed restricted dispersal and gene flow.
