Molecular characterization of Cryptosporidium isolates from humans and animals in Iran

Article Abstract:

A study was conducted to characterize the isolates of Cryptosporidium spp. from human and animal hosts in Iran on the basis of both the 18S rRNA gene and the Laxer locus. Three Cryptosporidium species, Cryptosporidium hominis, Cryptosporidium parvum, and Cryptosporidium meleagridis were identified, out of which zoonotically transmitted Cryptosporidium parvum was found to be the predominant species existing in humans.

Application of genotyping during an extensive outbreak of waterborne giardiasis in Bergen, Norway, during autumn and winter 2004

Article Abstract:

An extensive outbreak of waterborne giardiasis that occurred in Bergen, Norway during the autumn and winter of 2004 and 2005 is reported. It was concluded that sewage leakage from a residential area was the most probable source, but data also suggests that high genetic diversity in assemblage B isolates might occur, even when there is apparently only a single infection source.

Cryptosporidium parvum infections in Bergen, Norway, during an extensive outbreak of waterborne giardiasis in autumn and winter 2004

Article Abstract:

Many diarrheic patients were found to have Cryptosporidium infections during a large waterborne giardiasis outbreak in Norway. The report discusses whether these infections were due to a simultaneous outbreak of waterborne cryptosporidiosis or reflected background levels not normally detected.
