Mutation of the axonal transport motor kinesin enhances paralytic and suppresses shaker in drosophila

Article Abstract:

The effects of kinesin (Khc) and ion channel mutations in drosophila were studied to identify possible kinesin transport vesicles which carry essential proteins for ion channel activity. Khc mutations resulted in defects and genetic interactions similar to mutations which inhibit the expression of the alpha-subunit of voltage-gated sodium channels. It is hypothesized that the inhibition of kinesin functions negatively affects the anterograde axonal transport of vesicles carrying sodium channels.

Molecular analysis of EMS-induced frizzled mutations in Drosophila melanogaster

Article Abstract:

The frizzled (fz) gene in Drosophila is responsible for the development of normal tissue polarity in adults. Mutations of the fz gene result in a disruption of hairs and bristles of adult cuticles in Drosophila. An analysis of several alleles of fz reveals that the abnormal growth of adult cuticles is characterized by abnormal amounts of Fz proteins. Moreover, most of the fz mutations occurred in the proline residue located in the presumptive first cytoplasmic loop of the protein.

Identification of homeotic target genes in Drosophila melanogaster including nervy, a proto-oncogene homologue

Article Abstract:

Homeotic selector genes influence morphological variations in Drosophila melanogaster's anterior to posterior axis. These genes are located in either the bithorax or antennapedia complex genomes. Morphology is conditioned by homeotic genes through controlled target gene expression. Isolation of Ubx-activated target genes showed expression patterns that indicated regulation by multiple homeotic genes other than Ubx.
