Myosin II-dependent cortical movement is required for centrosome separation and positioning during mitotic spindle assembly

Article Abstract:

A study showing that cortical myosin II activity is required for normal centrosome migration and positioning around chromosomes during spindle assembly is presented. The fact that after nuclear envelope breakdown (NEBD), completion of centrosome separation and positioning around chromosomes depends on astral microtubule connections to a moving cell cortex is proposed.

MAP kinase-mediated stress relief that precedes and regulates the timing of transcriptional induction

Article Abstract:

Hog1 phosphorylation stimulates Nha1 activity and is crucial for the rapid reassociation of proteins with their their target sites in chromatin. This initial response to hyperosmolarity precedes and temporally regulates the activation of stress-response genes that depends on Hog1 phosphorylation of transcription factors in the nucleus.

Myosin assembly: the power of multiubiquitylation

Article Abstract:

The role of multiubiquitylation in the myosin chaperone UNC-45 is described. Novel findings in C. elegans indicate that two ubiquitin-ligases team up to multiubiquitylate the myosin chaperon UNC-45, suggesting a novel link between regulated protein degradation and myosin assembly.
