Nonlinear dependency of intracellular fluxes on growth rate in miniaturized continuous cultures of Escherichia coli

Article Abstract:

A novel mini-scale continuous-culture system for the quantitative analysis of microbial growth on 10-ml scale is developed to elucidate the impact of growth rate on metabolic network operation. The results demonstrate that mini-scale continuous cultivation enables quantitative and parallel characterization of intra- and extra cellular phenotypes in a steady state, thereby greatly reducing the workload and costs for stable-isotope experiments.

Identification of Escherichia coli 0157:H7 genomic regions conserved in strains with a genotype associated with human infection

Article Abstract:

The enterohemorrhagic strains of Escherichia coli O157:H7 that are responsible for diarrhea and colitis epidemic are found to contain unique genomic features called as conserved regions of genomic differences (CRD). The polymerase chain reaction (PCR) mediated identification of these regions has shown their location in the Sakai S-loops and pO157 plasmid of the bacteria.

Produce isolates of the Escherichia coli Ont:H52 serotype that carry both Shiga toxin 1 and stable toxin genes

Article Abstract:

Produce isolates of the Escherichia coli Ont:H52 serotype carried Shiga toxin 1 and stable toxin genes but only expressed Stx1. The Ont:H52 strains shares similar pulsed-field gel electrophoresis profiles and an identical but distinctive sequence type, indicating that they are a unique Shiga-toxigenic Escherichia coli (STEC) clonal group.
