Ochratoxin production by Aspergillus species

Article Abstract:

Aspergillus ochraceus, A. alliaceus, A. sclerotiorum, A. sulphureus, A. albertensis, A. auricomus, and A. wentii produce the mycotoxin ochratoxin. Ochratoxin production has been detected in these species using an immunochemical method based on a monoclonal antibody preparation against ochratoxin A. The production of ochratoxin B has also been detected in all these species. High-performance thin-layer chromatography and high-performance liquid chromatography have been employed for these analyses.

Identification of an abscisic acid gene cluster in the grey mold Botrytis cinerea

Article Abstract:

The asomycete Botrytis cinerea produces the plant hormone abscisic acid (ABA) in axenic culture like several other phytopathogenic fungi. Neighborhood analysis of bcaba1, the first fungal gene involved in ANA biosynthesis, revealed three further candidate genes that include a putative p450 monooxygenase-encoding gene (bcaba2), an opening reading frame without significant similarities (bcaba3) and a gene probably coding for a short-chain dehydrogenase/reductase (bcaba4).

Biochemical characterization of ochratoxin A-producing strains of the genus Penicillium

Article Abstract:

Forty-eight strains of Penicillium verrucosum that produce ochratoxin-A are described. Ochratoxin-A is a mycotoxin that is nephrotoxic and nephrocarcinogenic.
