On the probabilities of identity states in permutable populations

Article Abstract:

An appropriate representation for a permutable population requires three parameters. In the population gene identity is not dependent on the pattern of genes across individuals. Probabilities of the identity states of two persons with a given genealogical relationship are given in terms of kinship parameters of the underlying population with the founders of the genealogy randomly selected. One derivation of probabilities of identity states for populations in which there is a degree of kinship has been based on assumptions that are valid only for some very restricted population models. The assumptions are not necessary.

Genetic linkage of IgA deficiency to the major histocompatibility complex: evidence for allele segregation distortion, parent-of-origin penetrance differences, and the role of anti-IgA antibodies in disease predisposition

Article Abstract:

Several pathogenic mechanisms have been identified that correlate immunoglobulin A deficiency (IgAD) and disease predisposition. Studies using transmission/disequilibrium testing indicates family-based associations, with affected mothers more likely to produce IgAD offspring than affected fathers. Anti-IgA-positive status also affects transmission, as does increased allele sharing at 6p21 witnessed in affected individuals.

Complex segregation analyses: uses and limitations

Article Abstract:

Complex segregation analysis (CSA) allows complex genetic inheritance patterns to be evaluated. Inheritance in pedigrees may be considered collectively, without the need to segregate individual nuclear families. CSA analysis was used in identifying genes which greatly increase susceptibility to breast and prostate cancers.
