Organization of the Haemophilus ducreyi 35000 chromosome

Article Abstract:

A physical and rudimentary genetic map of the Haemophilus ducreyi strain 35000 genome was developed. Findings revealed that both H. ducreyi and the distantly related Haemophilus influenzae have six rrn operons marked by the locations of the I-CeuI sites. However, the two species exhibited an identical I-CeuI pattern to that of H. ducreyi 35000, but SfiI digests of the two strains were different. The position of the six rrn operons was determined and thirteen identified H. ducreyi genes positioned on the map of strain 35000.

An operon encoding three glycolytic enzymes in Lactobacillus delbrueckii subsp. bulgaricus: glyceraldehyde-3-phosphate dehydrogenase, phosphoglycerate kinase and triosephosphate isomerase

Article Abstract:

Lactobacillus delbrueckii subspecies bulgaricus has an operon that codes for three enzymes in the glycolytic pathway, glyceraldehyde-3-phosphate dehydrogenase, phosphoglycerate kinase and triosephosphate isomerase. The gene for glyceraldehyde-3-phosphate dehydrogenase is designated as gap, that for phosphoglycerate kinase as pgk and that for triosephosphate isomerase as tpi. These genes are cloned, sequenced and characterized.

The rrs (16S)-rrl (23S) ribosomal intergenic spacer region as a target for the detection of Haemophilus ducreyi by aa heminested -PCR assay

Article Abstract:

An oligonucleotide segment specific for Haemophilus ducreyi is found in the intergenic region between the rrs and rrl genes. This segment can be used in a heminested polymerase chain reaction assay. The assay is a potential diagnostic tool as initial studies using the probe revealed that the probe is 96% sensitive in the diagnosis of genital chancre. Culture methods only have 56% sensitivity.
