Overexpression of Candida albicans secretory aspartyl proteinase 2 and its expression in Saccharomyces cerevisiae do not augment virulence in mice

Article Abstract:

The construction of stable Saccharomyces cerevisiae and Candida albicans integrative transformants secreting aspartyl proteinase (Sap)2p is presented. C. albicans SAP2 was overexpressed in both species using S. cerevisiae and and C. albicans ADH1 promoter. While Sap2p expression in C. albicans resulted in early and high-level proteinase secretion, Sap2p expression in S. cerevisiase lead to the hydrolysis and use of BSA as sole nitrogen source.

The yeast endosomal Na(sup)+/H(sup)+ exchanger, Nhx1, confers osmotolerance following acute hypertonic shock

Article Abstract:

Research was conducted to examine the regulation of osmotolerance in yeast cells exposed to hypertonic medium. Results show osmotolerance is caused by the high-osmolarity glycerol mitogen activated protein kinase cascade activity, leading to high levels of osmolyte glycerol accumulation and Nhx1aids in the recovery of cell growth.
