Paralogs and mutational robustness linked through transcriptional reprogramming

Article Abstract:

A latest study of genome-wide expression patterns and regulatory motif content of paralogous yeast genes suggests that mutational robustness between paralogous genes is achieved through transcriptional reprogramming of one paralog to compensate for the loss of the other. The transcriptional reprogramming mechanism is highly intellectually satisfying as it goes well from statistical patterns uncovered by genome analysis to a precise molecule mechanism.

Towards Cellular Systems in 4D

Article Abstract:

Cellular Systems Biology initiative at the Structural and Computational Biology unit is embedded in various complementary activities within European Molecular Biology Laboratories (EMBL). The initiative aims to generate a structural framework of the cell and to use this unique data to incorporate temporal aspects using a strong computational biology component and modeling techniques.

Alternative splicing and evolution

Article Abstract:

Alternative splicing (AS) increases transcriptome diversity and allows a specific expression of transcripts. Computational predictions have revealed the high frequency and biological relevance of AS.
