Perceptions and patterns of physical activity: a comparison of Mohawk/Cayuga and non-Native adolescents

Article Abstract:

Relationships between levels of physical activity and self-referent thought among Native and non-Native students in grade 9 of a school in Southern Ontario have been studied. Perceived adequacy was not significantly different in the two groups, and Native students reported less physical activity than others. It can be concluded that physical educators should find culturally appropriate interventions to increase physical activity in Native youth and should consult with Native leadership. More investigation into generalization to less prosperous Natives is needed.

Cardiac dynamics during upright cycle exercise in boys

Article Abstract:

There appears to be a close match between increased heart rate and systemic venous return when boys exercise. This finding suggests peripheral pump function plays a significant role in circulatory response to exercise and mimics cardiac dynamics observed in adults.

Longitudinal assessment of hormonal and physical alterations during normal puberty in boys, part 6: modeling of growth velocity, mean growth hormone (GH mean), and serum testosterone (T) concentrations

Article Abstract:

Data from 23 boys were collected over a 6-year period to develop population models for normal growth velocity, testosterone, and mean growth hormonal level. The least absolute deviation estimators were shown to be more robust than ordinary least squares estimators.
