Physical fitness and body composition in relation to physical activity in prepubescent Senegalese children

Article Abstract:

A study was conducted to examine the relationship between body composition, physical activity, and physical fitness among Senegalese children 8.5-13.5 years of age. Anthropometric dimensions were collected in 140 children. Age and gender had a major effect on body composition and physical fitness. Results suggested that physical activity in these children is not an important indicator of cardiorespiratory fitness and motor fitness.

Tracking of physical fitness components, meaning stability of the characteristics over time, has been examined in a study of Israeli boys and girls from the second to sixth grades.
