Purification and characterization of a secreted laccase of Gaeumannomyces graminis var. tritici

Article Abstract:

A secreted fungal laccase was purified from filtrates of Gaeumannomyces graminis var tritici cultures induced with copper and xylidine. The active protein had an apparent molecular mass of 190 kDa and yielded subunits with molecular masses of 60 kDa when denatured and deglycosylated. This laccase had a pI of 5.6 and an optimal pH of 4.5 with 2,6-dimethoxyphenol as its substrate. It was observed that this laccase may be involved in melanin polymerization in this phytopathogen's hyphae and/or in lignin depolymerization in its infected plant host.

Detoxification of benzoxazolinone allelochemicals from wheat by Gaeumannomyces graminis var. tritici, G. graminis var. graminis, G. graminis var. avenae, and Fusarium culmorum

Article Abstract:

The role of benzoxazinone and benzoxazoline allelochemicals from wheat in plant-pathogen interactions was investigated. While incubation with Gaeumannomyces spp. produced different degradation activities of benzoxazolin-2(3H)-one (BOA), the presence of Fusarium culmorom resulted in more severe degradation. The degradation products from the reactions were identified as malonamic acids. Inhibition of fungal growth and different stages of fungal root rot were also caused by allelochemicals and their fungal metabolites.

Variation in sensitivity of Gaeumannomyces graminis to antibiotics produced by fluorescent Pseudomonas spp. and effect on biological control of take-all of wheat

Article Abstract:

Isolates of Gaeumannomyces graminis, a take-all of wheat causing agent were insensitive to phenazine-1-carboxylic acid and 2,4-diacetylphloroglucinol produced by fluorescent Pseudomonas spp. at concentrations of 1.0 micro-gram per mililitre and 3.0 micro-gram per mililitre respectively. The Gaeumannomyces graminis isolates 1817 and 1856 were insensitive to PCA but were sensitive to Phl.
