Purification and characterization of an arene cis-dihydrodiol dehydrogenase endowed with broad substrate specificity toward polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbon dihydrodiols

Article Abstract:

Initial reactions in the bacterial degradation of polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) comprise of a ring-dihydroxylation catalyzed by a dioxygenase and a subsequent oxidation of the dihydrodiol products by a dehydrogenase. A characterization of the dihydrodiol dehydrogenase from the PAH-degrading Sphingomonas strain CHY-1 is presented.

Characterization of a novel angular dioxygenase from fluorene-degrading Sphingomonas sp. strain LB126

Article Abstract:

The genes involved in the initial attack on fluorene by Sphingomonas sp. strain LB126 are examined. The quantification of the resulting oxidation products has indicated that fluorene and phenanthrene are the preferred substrates of the [alpha] and [beta] subunits of a dioxygenase complex (FInA1-FInA2).
