Purification and characterization of gentisate 1,2-dioxygenases from Pseudomonas alcaligenes NCIB 9867 and Pseudomonas putida NCIB 9869

Article Abstract:

The purification of the gentisates 1,2-dioxygenases from Pseudomonas alcaligenes NCIB 9867 (P25X) and P. putida NCIB 9869 has been undertaken (P35X). P25X has a tetrameric structure with an estimated molecular mass of 154 kDa and a subunit mass of 39 kDa. P35X has a dimeric structure with a molecular mass of 82kDa and a subunit mass of 42 kDa. Both gentisates have similar kinetic turnover characteristics but with different KmS values.

Genetic diversity of benzoyl coenzyme reductase genes detected in denitrifying isolates and estuarine sediment communities

Article Abstract:

An investigation on the diversity of benzoyl-CoA reductase genes in denitrifying bacterial isolates capable of degrading aromatic compounds and in river and estuarine sediment samples from the Arthur Kill in New Jersey and the Chesapeake Bay in Maryland is presented. The detected genes have further applications as genetic markers to monitor aromatic compound degradation in natural and engineered ecosystems.

Dissimilatory nitrite redictase genes from autotrophic ammonia-oxidizing bacteria

Article Abstract:

A copper-containing dissimilatory nitrite reductase gene has been found in beta-subdivision ammonia-oxidizing bacteria that is similar to the copper-containing nitrite reductase in heterotrophic denitrifiers. The phylogeny of the genetic sequence of this gene corresponds to to 16S rRNA and amoA phylogenetic trees.
