RAGE mediates a novel proinflammatory axis: a central cell surface receptor for S100/calgranulin polypeptides

Article Abstract:

A study was conducted to determine how S100/calgranulin polypeptides control the inflammatory process of cells. Results indiacte that two members of the S100/calgranulin polypeptide family, namely, receptor for advanced glycation end (RAGE) and the extracellular newly identified RAGE-binding proteins, facilitate the activation of endothelial cells, macrophages and lymphocytes that trigger the inflammatory process.
