Rapid characterization of spores of Bacillus cereus group bacteria by matrix-assisted laser desorption-ionization time-of-flight mass spectrometry

Article Abstract:

Research shows that matrix-assisted laser desorption-ionization mass spectrometry can reveal unique spectra characteristic of bacterial species. Spore analysis of Bacillus cereus group of bacteria demonstrated their differentiation with those of B. sutilis and B. globigii.

Identification of [beta]-lactamase in antibiotic-resistant Bacillus cereus spores

Article Abstract:

[beta]-Lactamase type I has occurred for the first time in the sporulated form in a penicillin-resistant Bacillus species. The enzyme is characterized from the Bacillus cereus 5/B line (ATCC 13061) by using mass spectrometry and two-dimensional gel electrophoresis.

Identification of Bacillus spores by matrix-assisted laser desorption ionization-mass spectrometry

Article Abstract:

Bacillus spores have been identified by matrix-assisted laser desorption ionization (MALDI)-mass spectrometry. Unique patterns of biomarkers were reproducibly characterized in order to tell Bacillus species members apart. Discrimination at the strain level was possible for spores of B. cereus. Protein biomarkers were characterized by MALDI analysis using spores treated with corona plasma discharge for a short time.
