Reduced genetic variation occurs among genes of the highly clonal plant pathogen Xanthomonas axonopodis pv. vesicatoria, including the effector gene avrBs2

Article Abstract:

The genetic variation in two Xanthomonas axonopodis pv. vesicatoria avr genes and within the Xanthomonas axonopodis pv. vesicatoria chromosome in 55 strains of this pathogen, representing a worldwide sample of pathogens collected from diseased peppers is examined. The results suggested that the global Xanthomonas axonopodis pv. vesicatoria population is extremely clonal, with very little genetic variation throughout the chromosome, including avrBs2 and the plasmidborne avrBs1.

Root exudates regulate soil fungal community composition and diversity

Article Abstract:

Studies have shown that two model plant species, Arabidopsis thaliana and Medicago truncatula, have maintained resident soil fungal populations, but are unable to maintain nonresident soil fungal populations. Root exudates are established as a mechanism through which a plant is able to regulate soil fungal community composition.

Characterization of ISXax1, a novel insertion sequence restricted to Xanthomonas axonopodis pv. phaseoli (Variants fuscans and non-fuscans) and Xanthomonas axonopodis pv. vesicatoria

Article Abstract:

The Dot blot, Southern blot and PCR analysis of ISXax1, a novel insertion sequence belonging to the IS256 and mutator families revealed that ISXax1 is restricted to Xanthomonas axonopodis pv. phaseoli (variants fuscans and non-fuscans) and Xanthomonas axonopodis pv. vesicatoria strains.
