RsbT and RsbV contribute to sigma(super B)-dependent survival under environmental, energy, and intracellular stress conditions in Listeria monocytogens

Article Abstract:

A study was conducted to investigate the roles of regulators of sigma B (Rsbs) in stress resistance and virulence-associated characteristics in the bacterial pathogen Listeria monocytogens, in-frame deletions were created in RsbT and RsbV. The study indicates that RsbT and RsbV both contribute to sigma(super B) activation in L. monocytogenes during exposure to environmental and energy stresses as well as during tissue culture infection.

[sigma.sup.B] Activation under environmental and energy stress conditions in listeria monocytogenes

Article Abstract:

Quantitative reverse transcriptase PCR was used to compare the [sigma.sup.B] activity profiles in Listeria monocytogenes wild-type strain 10403S and deltasigB, deltarsbT, and deltarsbV strains challenged with either environmental or energy stress conditions. The data shows that L. monocytogenes [sigma.sup.B] has a complex activation network, which differs from that in the closely related gram-positive model organism B. subtilis.

[[sigma].sup.B]-dependent and [[sigma].sup.B]-independent mechanisms contribute to transcription of Listeria monocytogenes cold stress genes during cold shock and cold growth

Article Abstract:

The contribution of [[sigma].sup.B] to the transcription of Listeria monocytogenes genes during growth at 4 degree Celsius was examined. Results conclude that the power of Listeria monocytogenes to last and grow at low temperature were derived from [[sigma].sup.B] mechanisms.
