Shifts in rhizoplane communities of aquatic plants after cadmium exposure

Article Abstract:

The comparative molecular analysis of bacterial communities of the aquatic plant Lemna minor from a contaminated site (RCP) and from a laboratory culture (EPA), as well as each of this with the addition of cadmium is presented. The comparative bacterial community study is based on the analyses of 16S rRNA clone libraries, each containing about 100 clones from the root surfaces of plants.

Quantitative and qualitative [beta] diversity measures lead to different insights into factors that structure microbial communities

Article Abstract:

The studies conducted by considering the relative influences of mineral chemistry, temperature, and geography on microbial community composition in acidic thermal springs is presented. Results showed that applying qualitative and quantitative measures to the same data set could lead to dramatically different conclusions about the main factors that structure microbial diversity.

Comparison of aerobic methanotrophic communities in littoral and profundal sediments of Lake Constance by a molecular approach

Article Abstract:

An overall dominance of type I methanotrophs in both littoral and profundal sediments is revealed on analysis of pmoA and 16S rRNA gene clone libraries of methanotrophic bacteria in Lake Constance. It shows that type I methanotrophs are present and dominant in the profundal sediment of Lake Constance.
