Single fertilization in maize

Article Abstract:

Research designed to detect single fertilization events in diverse lines of maize obtained 9239 yellow kernels with white scutellum from the 118 ears examined, along with 20,673 purple kernels with purple scutellum, eight yellow kernels with purple scutellum and 79 purple kernels with white scutellum. Single fertilization was seen in all seven genetically different lines, with the rates not being statistically different. The average single fertilization rate shown by untreated maize pollen was 0.4%.

Genic and genotypic frequencies of endosperm mutants in maize populations under natural selection

Article Abstract:

A study was conducted to analyze the genic and genotypic properties of four maize endosperm mutants in five successive generations in synthetic populations with similar genetic background under natural selection. The plant populations were synthesized by crossing the inbred line L477 with normal endosperm. Results indicated that natural selection on the mutants and in the phases of the plant life cycle were diverse in direction and intensity.

Inheritance of susceptibility to Nicosulfuron herbicide in maize

Article Abstract:

The study on the inheritance of susceptibility in maize (Zea mays) to Accent on herbicide with nicosulfuron ingredient to control Johnsongrass, (Sorghum halepense) in maize indicates that susceptibility is recessive and controlled by a gene designated nsF. This discovery of susceptibility of maize inbreds to nicosulfuron indicates the necessity for including both hybrids and inbreds in experimentation with herbicides.
