Songs of two Mexican populations of the Western Flycatcher Empidonax Difficilis complex

Article Abstract:

Vocalizations of the Western Flycatcher (Empidonax Difficilis) complex were recorded in Mexico to ascertain differences between the song pitches of Flycatcher populations in the interior and coastal regions. Pacific-slope Flycatchers (E. difficilis), in the coastal area of Baja California, had very low pitched songs. These songs, although different from typical coastal songs, were similar to the Channel Island vocalisations. The advertising songs of interior Cordilleran Flycatchers (E. occidentalis) of Hindalgo were found to be similar to those of Flycatchers in the interior regions of southeastern Arizona.

Lek behavior of the Gray-hooded Flycatcher

Article Abstract:

The display behavior of five males of the Gray-hooded Flycatcher and the characteristics of their territories at a lowland forest reserve in the Serra de Paranapiacaba mountains in Sao Paulo, Brazil, were investigated. Calls were the primary means of long-distance attention-getting strategies by males on display territories. The lek behavior of the Gray-hooded Flycatcher resembled that of the Ochre-bellied and McConnell's Flycatchers although there are significant differences.

Pair formation and copulation behavior in least flycatcher clusters

Article Abstract:

Research examining the breeding behavior of clusters of least flycatcher birds in Canada is presented. Particular attention is given to observations regarding the birds' behavior of pairing, including intra-pair and extra-pair copulations.
