Ssn6-Tup1 interacts with class I histone deactetylases required for repression

Article Abstract:

SSn6-Tup1 seems to actively recruit deactylase activities to deacetylate adjacent nucleosomes and to promote tup1-histone interactions. Histone hyperacetylation brought on by combined mutations in genes that encode certain histone deacetylases (HDACs) does away with Ssn6-Tup1 repression.

Asf1 links Rad53 to control of chromatin assembly

Article Abstract:

Rad53 is linked by Asf1 to chromatin assembly control, and this is discussed in this research communication article. Overproduction of the chromatin assembly factor Asf1 has been found to be able to suppress the Ts phenotype of mrc1rad53 double mutants and the HU sensitivity of rad53 mutants. Also, eliminating silencing supresses this lethality. This implicates chromatin structure further in checkpoint function. Asf1 and RAad53 exist in a dynamic complex that dissociates in response to replication blocks and DNA damage.

In vivo chromatin remodeling by yeast ISWI homologs Isw1p and Isw2p

Article Abstract:

Research has shown that independent and cooperative Isw1p- and Isw2p-mediated positioning of short nucleosome arrays in gene-regulatory elements at various transcription units takes place in vivo. Isw1p and Isw2p are homologs in budding yeast of the Drosophila ISWI chromatin-remodeling ATPase. Both yeast ISWI complexes likely regulate developmental responses to starvation. Recruitment by a variety of DNA-binding proteins controls meiosis and haploid invasive growth for Isw2p.
