The ability of Aneurinibacillus migulanus (Bacillus brevis) to produce the antibiotic gramicidin S is correlated with phenotype variation

Article Abstract:

The degenerative diversity of Aneurinibacillus migulanus (Bacillus brevis) strain is analyzed to select the best one for large scale production of antimicrobial peptide gramicidin S (GS). The respective growth characteristics, the morphology of the vegetative cells and spores, the sporulation activity and the tolerance for externally added GS are discussed.

Complexation of uranium by cells and S-layer sheets of Bacillus shaericus JG-A12

Article Abstract:

Bacillus shaericus JG-A12 is a natural isolate recovered from a uranium mining waste pile near the own of Johanngeorgenstadt in Saxony, Germany. An investigation is presented to elucidate the nature of the chemical interactions between uranium and the surface layer and cells of Bacillus shaericus JG-A12 using spectroscopic and microscopic methods.

Reaerosolization of fluidized spores in ventilation systems

Article Abstract:

The dry, fluidized spore reaerosolization is examined in a heating, ventilating, and air conditioning duct system by using the spores of Bacillus atrophaeus. The results have shown that the spores deposited onto the duct were a persistent source of contamination over a long period.
